Firefox Adblock filterset

Adblock must be the second most useful and valued extension to Firefox that I have.
But I confess to finding it hard to sometime find the right filter for ads on some sites – especially Flash ads. So I was rapt to find an add-on to the addon (if you know what I mean).

Adblock Filterset.G Updater installs and automatically updates a very comprehensive filter list of ads. From the site:

This is a companion extension to Adblock and should be used in conjunction with it. This extension automatically downloads the latest version of Filterset.G every 4-7 days. Filterset.G is an excellent set of filters maintained by G for Adblock that blocks most ads on the internet. In addition, this extension allows you to define your own set of filters that you can add along with Filterset.G during an update.

An absolute gem!

  1. Do you find ads that much of a problem? I don’t use ad-filtering, most sites I go to use small discrete text ads. The exceptions that come to mind are the SMH and the very annoying overlay ads on Bigpond.

  2. I find them irritating, yes. Maybe I go to more sites with intrusive ads… SMH is a shocker, never go to Bigpond ;-)
And like I say, I very, very rarely click on them.
If really use the site or it’s ‘products’ like open source software, I’m happy to make a small donation.

  3. Are the ad blocks sponsored by ads?

  4. I love adblock. It also cuts down page-load time and bandwidth use; especially important for those on dial-up.

adBlock is fast forward for your browser.
