Who on earth is listening?
Two events this week focussed my attention on our church’s podcasting activity.
First was an email from Simon pointing out the growth of downloads of the Sunday Night Church podcast files over the last few months. In January 2006 combined downloads of the MP3 and WMA podcast files totalled ~350. I was pretty surprised at that. But to discover that the figures had grown to over 1000 in May left me speechless (a rare condition indeed!).
The second was a phone call from the Sydney Morning Herald wanting an interview for a feature they are doing in ICON on June 24th on podcasting. Specifically, they wanted some input on ‘religious’ podcasting. The journo was flabbergasted when I revealed the stats for SNC.
So who on earth is doing all this downloading?
While it’s flattering at one level, I’m actually more puzzled than anything else. Given that feedback is pretty thin on the ground, who is listening and what do they really think of the material?
It’s all very intriguing, and if anyone has any theories, please comment below!

Everyone has a mouth and a thousand friends I once heard a motivational speaker say. People must be catching on faster than expected to the niche and TAC is leading the way.

I guess it must be something like that Tim.
It will be most interesting to see what happens to the stats after the exposure we will get in ICON in June 24th. They’re doing a story on podcasting, and TAC is the representative of ‘religious’ podcasting…

I admit it, I downloaded each talk 100 times to perform religious ‘cleansing’ of my work’s computer system.
Didn’t seem to do much good though – still goes slow and crashes on me.

Ah ha! Now we know the truth!
Simon, quick! An IP ban is called for!

Maybe Christians in places where good Bible teaching is scarce are finding TAC’s Bible talks online.
