A distinction indeed
Forgive the more personal than usual meanderings:
My dear wife, who many of you know, labours under the weight of many serious health issues. But she is chipping away at a Masters Degree in History, one subject per semester, keeping her mind active and productive.
And it really is chipping away. With the impact of medication and the ill heath itself, it is slow going, and the assignments and essays are painful (literally) and very taxing.
She put her final essay for this semester in last week, having battled to whittle down the word count to something closer to the target, but in end pretty unhappy with it.
It came back today, and she braced herself for a mediocre pass… and found she had scored an HD! 54 out of 60, complete with some lovely and encouraging remarks from the lecturer.
She’s a little overwhelmed, and I’m very proud of her.

Best wishes and congrats to your wife. Going back to study is a big commitment – and not one I’m prepared to take on. Taking on study while faced with health challenges is brave indeed.
My wife (Lisa) is back at Uni this year studying Grad Dip Ed with a view to being a high school English teacher. 16 years away from Uni and she’s straight back into the HDs. Mind you, she sweats blood to get them.
I too am proud.
Exams for this semester finish on Thursday, and then we are off for the weekend sans kids. Woo hoo.
