Why does Lebanon love Hezbollah?

One of the biggest problems for us in the west when we look at what is happening in conflicts such as the Israel-Lebanon situation currently, is the popular media.
We are fed such a distorted stream of information (and dis-information), it’s all but impossible to work out the issues behind the violence and conflict.

So this article on Sydneyanglicans.net is very helpful. It seeks to explain why the Hezbollah isn’t going away anytime soon. It’s brief and perhaps a little simplistic, but helpful in challenging the almost default view that many Australians seem to have: that Israel is in the right.

Comment

  1. So why does Israel dislike Hezbollah so much?

  2. I’m not expert on this, but my understanding is that Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon (that Israel take to be their territory by divine right) a few years back was because of Hezbollah’s entrenched resistance.
But I assume the current situation flared up because of a Hezbollah incursion into Israel a few weeks ago.

However, I’m happy to be corrected by wiser and more informed minds. ;-)
