A Larrikin Bishop
Good to hear the news yesterday that the new Bishop of Wollongong is to be Al Stewart
Al is something of a character, and seeing him in a suit and tie in the photo on the sydneyanglicans.net article still gives me a laugh.
I know Al as the pig hunting, four-wheel driving, larrikin with the Rhodesian Ridgeback called ‘Arnie’, who took great care of the little congregation at Tregear before I arrived there.
But of course, there is more to Al than that. He is passionate about Jesus and about mission. He is a very gifted Bible teacher, and I just hope he gets a chance to keep using those skills and gifts in his new role.
I guess his appointment also means that Ivan Lee will no longer be the youngest Bishop in Sydney!
