Prayer meetings

I’ve been pondering how to encourage the good people at SWAC to spend more time in prayer.
Prayer meetings – as in times of gathering explicitly for prayer are fantastic ways to get people focussed on prayer, and so it was nice to see this little list of good, solid prayer advise on Exiled Preacher

  1. Be there. Make prayer a priority.
  2. Pray, out loud or silently.
  3. Remember, a brief vocal prayer is better than none at all.
  4. Don’t hog the meeting with lengthy prayers.
  5. Consider a gap in the prayer time a invitation to pray.
  6. Pray thankfully.
  7. Pray Scripturally.
  8. Plead the promises and be expectant.
  9. Be Trinitarian – pray to the Father through the Son by the Spirit.
  10. Pray for the glory of God.

  1. Hey Neil,

Not a bad thought really. I’ll be interested to hear how the prayer meeting goes cause what I’ve seen of our church people are either really keen for them or don’t turn up at all. I must admit that I’m in the second category, though its mostly because my Sundays are very full.

  2. Well, one way to find out how a prayer meeting goes Simmo, is to come. ;-)
I plan on having a couple running at different days and times.

Prayer ain’t optional, and if we want to see God at work in powerful ways in our church and community, concerted, intentional, specific prayer is foundational to that work.

    Cheers

  3. Hello,
You know I love prayer meeting. I haven’t been in a while because of school and work but I have enjoyed it in the past a great deal. I feel that I learned better how to pray.
