Windana - Day 1
Windana Family Festival kicked off today – in a fine way.
In my previous post, I explained our church’s involvement in Windana, and especially how Tim & Leah had taken on the directorship late in the planning for this year.
Well, God has been gracious. We had the team that we needed, and despite slightly late publicity and other minor hiccups, we saw an increase in attendance on Day 1.
Infants had 40+ kids, Primary, 80+, Teens, around 40, and the Adult section saw 35-40 (a big increase on last year).
A lot of the team was relatively inexperienced, but all that I saw was committed Christians of all ages working hard with the kids that God had bought along, to the best of their ability. There was a really good atmosphere, and I would expect number to climb over the week.
For most of the morning, I was shut away in the ‘Q&A Cafe’ – a new venture in the adult work this year. The idea is to provide a relaxing, informal atmosphere for the parents of the kids to gather to enjoy excellent fresh coffee (provided by moi!) or tea, and excellent eats. In all that, the plan is that there will be good opportunities for informal ‘God-talk’.
We must have had around 50-60 people come through the cafe, and I felt like I did nothing but pull shots from G.B’s very capable espresso machine.
Don’t know how much ‘God-talk’ happened, but I think this has been an important step forward in taking the Adult work at Windana beyond the craft and woodwork phase.
More news tomorrow, but in the meantime, please pray thus:
- Thank God for all the kids and people he bought along today.
- Pray for the handful of Infants kids who were a handful. For effective and loving discipline.
- Pray for the extra teens kids who came today, that they would return.
- Pray that the primary section would continue the good work started today.
- Pray for effective transport – especially the morning pick up by the buses.
- Pray that the ‘Q&A Cafe’ would be a means of engaging with people about God.
