The Art Of Ministry Training - Day one
A previous post has mentioned the course that MTS runs to train the Trainers of MTS Apprentices. I’ve been helping to organise an AMT for ministers in the west, and we started last Thursday.
The course runs for 32 hours, plus a reasonable amount of pre-reading, some assignments and a presentation. It doesn’t sound like much, but I’m finding it a little daunting. I realise that probably sounds pretty ho-hum to people out there in the ‘real’ world, working for corporations, and doing ‘in service’ training regularly. But this is not the norm in ministry.
Until very recently, most ministers would go through their whole working life and be able to count the number of inservice course they did on the fingers of one hand. But gone are the days when Christian ministers can ‘hide away’ from the big bad world. We need to keep our personal development on the front burner, and open ourselves to ongoing change and development of new skills.
I’m grateful that changes like that are happening. As hard as it is to carve out the time and energy for the course, I’m already encouraged at the way my thinking and ministry practices are being challenged.
Please pray that I would make the most of the opportunity, that I would grow in my skills, abilities and (most of all) godliness, and would be a much better trainer at the end of the course.
