Why are so many blogs getting hacked?

Every web site is prone to being hacked. There is no such thing as completely secure web software.
But Wordpress seems to have security holes that you can drive trucks through – and just as one is closed, another opens up.
Why do so many people persist in using this sub-standard (security wise) CMS when there are other far superior alternatives?
