Springwood Street Champions
It’s good to see that things have pushed on at SWAC while I’ve been away, and that we are among the first to launch a key part of the Diocesan-wide Connect 09 strategy.

The enigma that is Beach Missions
SUFM is part of the summer beach scene in NSW.
But is it a good use of resources? Is it the best way to reach Australians during the long summer shut down?
Those same questions have been raised for decades, but I wonder if we are any closer to real answers?...

Mission? To Vanuatu? I wish!
Vanuatu may not seem like a natural choice of a place to do Christian mission in. But that probably just means that your name isn’t Joel Atwood.
Joel spent a few weeks in Vanuatu last year with the UTS Christian group Credo, and fell in love with the place and people. So we weren’t surprised when he announced that he wanted to take a year off uni and test the waters of Christian mission full time back in the tough, hard environment of the tropics of Vanuatu!

When close <> the same
World Youth Day is coming up in July 2008. This is the Catholic festival being hosted by Sydney. It is expected that huge number of Roman Catholics will descend on Sydney for the event – in excess of 500,000.
Which is fine and good for the Roman Catholics. I have no problem with what they are doing, in the sense of they should have the freedom to pursue such activity.
Theologically, I beg to differ. Significantly. And this has led to some interesting discussions around my church in response to a recent series of Bible talks that touch on the issue…

Creative Christian Christmas
There’s no question that one of the toughest tasks each year for people involved in gospel ministry is coming up with a creative approach to our Christmas events.
I remember well the years at Toongabbie starting to sweat over the creative side of the carols event in August each year.
I reckon Australia is almost unique in the way Christmas in our culture connects with the gospel. There is a huge sense of goodwill in the Australian when it comes to Christmas and Christianity – something that I sense has disappeared in places like England, and remains compromised in the USA because of that country’s strange take on linked issues such as separation of church and state.
But in Oz,

Coffee Cart Christianity
A nice, simple suggestion for grabbing hold of a natural opportunity, adding fine coffee (and tea if you must), and coming up with great gospel ministry…

New Church Plant
SWAC is about to start it’s 11th congregation.
After some research, the township/suburb called Valley Heights (just down the Mountains from Springwood) was regarded as a good place to plant a church.
Ironically, an old Anglican church building in Valley Heights was sold off some years ago…
